In addition to volunteering time, donating financially helps us expand in the types of services offered and to increase the communities that we can serve.

St. Luke's Chosen for $10,000 Award by the Shreveport/Bossier Community Leaders of the Community Foundation of North Louisiana.

We're very proud to announce that St. Luke's Episcopal Mobile Ministry has just been chosen out of 45 Northwest Louisiana non-profits to receive grant funds via The Community Foundation of North Louisiana Community Leaders program! This group wants to make a positive difference in our community. They chose St. Luke's to help tell our story and raise $10,000 with us, which will allow us to help more people.

Since 2007, the Foundation's Shreveport/Bossier Community Leaders program has been helping potential community leaders learn how to be successful board members of non-profit organizations through workshops and their participation in The Change Fund. Each year a new set of potential leaders is given the goal of choosing a worthy non-profit and fundraising at least $10,000 for it.

This year's class evaluated 45 grant applications and then presentations by the non-profit finalists. Having chosen St. Luke's Episcopal Mobile Ministry, the Community Leaders program will now be working hard to publicize the good works that St. Luke's has been doing and explain how donors can help St. Luke's expand the depth and breadth of our health care community outreach.

All monies raised by the Community Leaders will go directly to St. Luke's, which intends to visit additional local shelters and increase the frequency of visits, to provide assistance obtaining medication, and to offer more comprehensive case management to our community's homeless and those who are housing unstable. It's been demonstrated that this approach makes good use of health care dollars.

We are deeply grateful for the recognition by the Shreveport/Bossier Community Leaders program, a program of the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations, and made possible by the Community Foundation, Capital One Bank and the Huey and Angelina Wilson Foundation.

We invite you to support St. Luke's continued actions to improve health care in our community by donating to The 2016 Change Fund at www.cfnla.org/CommunityLeaders or by donating directly on this page. We will continue to serve our community to the best of our abilities and would like to enlist your support, either through volunteering, or with monetary contributions. You can view a short video.

St. Luke's Episcopal Medical Ministry offered 185 clinics in 2015 and provided medical care at 1,637 client visits. In the first 10 months of 2016, we've already offered 185 clinics and have performed 1,741 client visits.

We're hoping that your donations to the 2016 Change Fund or to us directly will enable us to expand our medical van outreach to additional shelters, and to overall add more clinics so we can see more people. We'd also like to provide more assistance obtaining medications, and do even more case management - helping folks get to a dentist, for example.

Helping an individual learn about a chronic disease early on, and ensuring them a means for follow-up care, spares that person unneeded complications from the disease and helps improve their quality of life.

Preventive health screenings also spares the overburdened health care system costly treatment of complications of that disease when left untreated for many years.

Harvard School of Medicine has developed a Return on Investment (ROI) calculator that estimates the return to the health care system at large for every dollar a mobile health unit spends on preventive health screenings.
